Colour highlights

Kristin and her family did extensive house renovations last year, including painting most interior areas Resene Half Villa White and Resene Half Spanish White, enhancing the colours in their furniture and wallpaper and giving the house a light and fresh feel. This is complemented by a hallway painted in Resene Aquarius and a floor to ceiling blackboard in Resene Blackboard Paint black.

For their two young daughters they wanted to create a very colourful space and let them choose their colours. They started by removing the carpet and painting the floors and walls a very light but warm Resene Softly Softly. One daughter chose fiery and vibrant Resene Smitten and Resene Apple feature walls complemented by Resene Wild Thing steps.

Their older daughter had already painted one wall in Resene Wonderland to match her purple desk but always dreamed of a triangle feature wall matching the duvet she loves. They collected little colour charts from their Resene ColorShop and started cutting them into triangles and arranging them in a pattern on a white piece of paper.

However when they started painting they found it was much more fun to create as you go and add triangles in colours and sizes as they felt was right at the time using masking tape and a small roller. The most difficult thing was to stop. It was by far one of the most fun projects Kristin has done with her daughter. To complete the look her steps are painted in Resene Riptide and Resene Geraldine to mirror some of the wall colours. And they used leftover Resene Blackboard Paint for her cupboard. Her duvet matches perfectly!

By the time the girls’ bedrooms were completed they had used Resene Smitten, Resene Wild Thing, Resene Paris Daisy, Resene Geraldine, Resene Flamingo, Resene Wonderland, Resene Riptide and Resene Apple.

The front porch was painted in Resene Walk-on paint in Resene Midnight and the trellis is painted in Resene Softly Softly. Leftover paint was used to paint old terracotta pots so they would match the main house colours.
