Each year Resene is approached by a wide variety of groups creating murals. With most of this dedicated effort receiving only local community attention, Resene runs a Resene Mural Masterpieces Competition each year so that we can all enjoy the works that are created, no matter where they are. There is $7000 worth of prizes to be won.

You can now register and submit your mural entry completely online, making the process faster, easier, and more accessible for schools, community groups, businesses, and individuals.

Mural advice

Below is a simple guide to help you through each step.

1. Register Online

Start by completing the online registration form online through the link above. Once you submit your registration, you'll receive a confirmation email with more details and a link to the final entry form and further instructions to complete your mural masterpiece!

2. Receive Your Mural Kit & Plaque

Your mural kit and plaque will be sent to the postal address you provided during registration.

3. Using Your Discount Letter in Store

Bring the discount letter in your confirmation email to any Resene Colorshop (showing them on your phone is absolutely fine). ColorShop staff will record these details when processing your discounted paint purchase. This helps us check for double-ups and ensure discount letters are used correctly.

4. Complete Your Mural

Once you've created your mural masterpiece, you can submit your completed entry online using the link in your registration confirmation email, or through the link above on this webpage.

5. Submit Your Final Entry

Fill out the online entry form and upload your photos and receipts. You'll receive an email confirming that we've received your entry, along with a copy of everything you submitted.

There are three classes of entry

• Best School Mural – primary and secondary
• Best Community Mural
• Best Professional Mural

Entry is open to all ages and all mural types, so get your creative juices and paintbrushes fired up. Entries must be for murals in Australia or New Zealand using Resene paints. All entries must have the small Resene sign permanently affixed on/immediately next to the mural. In some cases, this may be painted into the mural. If you are unable to finish your mural in time for the closing date in the year you have entered, you are welcome to enter the mural using the entry form you have as soon as it is ready and we will include it in the next round of judging.

Judging

Murals are judged on their creativity, uniqueness, the impact/improvement they make to the area and the general finish/style. Mural designs are judged on the impact they are likely to make to the area they are intended for, the likelihood that the design will be able to be reproduced well and the intended location of the mural (e.g. where it is going, why and does the mural design suit that location).
