Resene Aquapel

Resene Aquapel is a clear water repellent treatment formulated to help control efflorescence and give a long-term water-beading effect to deter water penetration. It may be used on its own or as a primer under waterborne coatings, especially Resene AquaShield mineral effect.

The product is ideal as a clear finish over concrete to maintain the natural appearance while still providing it with some protection against the elements and slowing down the growth of mould, lichen and the like as these organisms will find it more difficult to grow on the coated surface than on an uncoated one.

Typical uses:

• Most porous building materials.
• May be used in multiple coats to keep concrete in its natural state looking good for longer by minimising the opportunity for moss, mould and lichen growths, brick, concrete block, fibrous cement, poured concrete, tilt slab, timber.

Resene AquaShield

Resene AquaShield is a high mineral content, super hydrophobic, water repellent coating with excellent coverage for application on porous building materials to impart watershedding properties. It combines the water repellent properties of silicones with a special surface micro-structure, which considerably reduces the contact area for water and dirt. The result: dirt particles adhere lightly and are more easily carried away by rain. Ideal for highly stressed weather-exposed facades. Made to the original Deutsches Patentschrift 1284007.

Although it has excellent weather resistance, as with most waterborne finishes it allows the building to 'breathe' so that water vapours from inside are able to pass through the paint film to the exterior.

Resene AquaShield is an attractive flat mineral effect finish, a classic aged look, particularly suited to heritage, art deco, Sante Fe and Mediterranean style homes and buildings.

When used commercially it is best applied to heritage buildings that suit the soft, slightly textured finish. Use Resene Lumbersider or Resene Sonyx 101 for foundations or other high wear areas.

Porous substrates should be pre-treated with Resene Aquapel to maximise water repellency and breathability properties. Resene AquaShield can be used in conjunction with other primers and sealers, but water repellency and breathability properties will be impaired.

Resene AquaShield CoolColour™

Resene FX Metallic

If a finish a little out of the ordinary is called for, Resene FX Metallic and special effects are the ideal solution to add an extra dimension to a wide range of areas from exterior concrete and steelwork through to interior feature walls, doors, joinery and furniture. Resene has two metallic finishes:

Resene FX Metallic is a waterborne metallic finish recommended for use over prepared concrete and plaster. Resene FX Metallic is the preferred product for interior work because of its Eco Choice approval and low VOCs.

Resene Imperite I.F. 503 is a spray applied high performance coating. It is more durable than Resene FX Metallic in exterior situations and is preferred especially over new steelwork. Slight variations in colour may occur between Resene FX Metallic and Resene Imperite I.F. 503 due to their inherently different film forming properties. The metallics range is best applied by spray for a monolithic finish but may be brushed using a crows foot technique or rolled with good trade practice.

Resene Resitex - Standard, Medium, Coarse

Resene Resitex is a tough waterborne textured spray finish with excellent adhesion and flexibility, available in three grades Resene Resitex Coarse - 880 micron deeply textured rugged texture, Resene Resitex Medium - 500 micron heavy Mediterranean texture and Resene Resitex Standard - 300 micron light Mediterranean texture. These textures effectively disguise the imperfections and surface blemishes of a substrate without detracting from the architectural concept.

Resene Resitex Plastercote

Resene Resitex Plastercote is an elastomeric acrylic specialist finish perfect for creating a Mediterranean style effect, yet tough enough to withstand the harsh environment. Based on tough acrylic elastomers that have an excellent 'memory' of their original shape when distorted. Improved dirt pick-up resistance and crack bridging properties are also of significant benefit. Ideally suited for structures that will flex and develop minor cracks. Protects flexing structures from concrete carbonisation by maintaining a seal over the cracks that develop.

Resene Resitex Plastercote may be applied to reproduce a sponge plaster finish associated with Mediterranean architecture through to a scratch plaster finish (worm tracks) depending on application technique (spray or trowel), aggregate size and spreading rate.

Resene Sandtex

Resene Sandtex is a tough waterborne textured spray finish for beautifying and protecting concrete structures. It has a fine texture of 150 microns and is often used recreate the texture of natural sandstone. Inherently durable, it may also be used to create lightly textured effects is ideal for use when disguising minor surface imperfections.

The time-worn strength of sandstone with the mellow patina of age has been recreated in Resene Sandtex. Perfect for beautifying and protecting concrete, this very versatile finish can be used to reproduce a variety of finishes from aged render effects through to natural limestone and sandstone finishes. The fine sandstone texture adds an extra dimension to the coating and effectively disguises minor surface blemishes without changing the basic architectural concept. The combination of strong colour and texture can transform an ordinary surface into an architectural feature, making it a very popular choice for feature walls.

Resene Sandtex may be applied by roller, spray or brush. A popular brush application method is to crows foot the coating, applying it by wide brush in a criss cross pattern to give a tactile brushed Mediterranean look.

Use Resene Sandtex with a basecoat of Resene Lumbersider tinted to the Resene Sandtex topcoat colour to ensure uniformity of the finish. Some applicators may find it easier to apply a fine coat of Resene Sandtex so that the subsequent coat of Resene Sandtex will have something to grip onto. An excellent basecoat for Paint Effects Medium as the texture adds an extra dimension to the effect. Resene Sandtex also provides an ideal basecoat for creating Mediterranean style effects. The texture in Resene Sandtex adds an extra dimension to the paint effect. Its effect is not dissimilar to traditional limewashes or cement based paints.

Resene Swimming Pool Paint

Resene Swimming Pool Paint is formulated for direct application to suitably prepared concrete swimming pools or to maintain pools coated in a compatible coating system. A single pack product that provides a tough and durable coloured pool finish. Excellent intercoat adhesion ensures easy maintenance and touch-up. Excellent intercoat adhesion ensures Resene Swimming Pool Paint is easy to maintain as repainting does not require time consuming preparation methods. The product can be applied over a wide range of temperatures provided the concrete surface is dry.

For the DIY'er Resene Swimming Pool Paint is best applied by roller (brushing is suitable for small areas only). Spray application requires a qualified tradesperson.

Resene Water Lockout

Resene Water Lockout is a versatile high build liquid watertight membrane based on a urethane modified bitumen emulsion. It cures to a seamless highly elastic and durable film that adheres well to most substrates to block water ingress.

It comes in black and isn't designed for painting over, so it's best used in non-aesthetic areas of a building, such as on exterior masonry walls, in situ concrete, plastered/rendered walls or on retaining walls and inside wooden planter boxes.

Resene X-300E

high build elastomeric membrane coating

Resene X-300E is a thixotropic weathertight membrane designed for thick application over cracked concrete surfaces. Thixotropic means it is a coating material that, while free-flowing and easy to manipulate under the brush, sets to a gel within a short time when it is allowed to remain at rest. It is made using acrylic elastomers that have excellent 'memory' of their original shape when distorted, which gives the product incredible movement and crack bridging capabilities, enabling it to bridge gaps up to half the thickness of the paint film. Resene X-300E performs well over badly cracked and deteriorating substrates and is therefore recommended over propagating cracks - that is, when cracks are getting worse and/or new ones are appearing. The coating, when specified at the correct dry film thickness, has unique crack bridging properties and any movement of cracks beneath the coating layer does not result in film fracture, which means it's ideally suited for structures that will flex and develop minor cracks. This product will resolve many less than perfect substrates, but is not recommended on very poor substrates. It is able to be applied at very high thicknesses without sagging or film cracking.

Resene X-300E protects flexing structures from concrete carbonisation by maintaining a seal over the micro cracks that develop.

Resene X-300E has a semi-gloss finish but like all elastomeric coatings is more prone to dirt pickup than standard coatings. This may be easily overcome with a final coat of a standard waterborne topcoat such as Resene Lumbersider or Resene X-200 weathertight membrane.

Resene X-300E replaces Resene Flexicover.

Typical uses:

• Concrete road bridges, high rise concrete buildings, all other cementitious surfaces.

Resene X-400

ultra high build barrier membrane coating

Resene X-400 is an ultra high build weathertight membrane, with superior small void and crack filling properties, designed for thick application over concrete surfaces. It's designed as a weathertight and an anti-carbonisation membrane and may be applied at very high thicknesses without sagging or film cracking. Resene X-400 can be textured using a texturing roller sleeve to give a light to medium rolled texture where surface imperfections in the concrete are to be disguised, with a standard roller for a less textured finish or by spray. With Resene X-400 you get the dual benefits of texture and weathertightness in one product combined with better washability and reduced dirt pickup compared to elastomeric coatings. Shows similar characteristics to the industry yardstick Resene X-200 in terms of adhesion, ease of application and durability. Replaces Resene Thixalon 5.

Typical uses:

• All cementitious surfaces, concrete, blockwork, fibre cement sheeting, solid plaster and on cracked substrates where weathertightness is required.
• Brushed into small cracks it will prevent moisture entering the damaged substrate.
