Built by threeLorrie has just had a new home built for her by her three sons. She wanted bold earthy colours that went together but were still quite different from each other. She was reading a book ‘Be Not Afraid’ and really liked the colour of the cover. She decided it would be a great colour for her new kitchen. Resene Saratoga was the perfect match to it. She took a bundle of Resene colour charts to her sister’s home who had some cupboards painted Resene Pavlova and decided this would be a good base colour throughout the house with Resene Rum Swizzle for ceilings, architraves and scotia. Lorrie cut out a multitude of likely colours and stuck them on her cupboard and by the very scientific process of ‘too bright, too dark, too light…’ she ended up with Resene Wasabi in the main bathroom as it matched the two decorative tiles in the shower and Resene Tall Poppy in the ensuite, matching the tiles in the shower, and on one wall of the master bedroom. The second bedroom has Resene Bracken on one long wall, around the door and covering a short wall at the end of the wardrobe. The third bedroom has Resene Hazard on the wardrobe wall and along two thirds of the side wall, which proved to be a real challenge for her brother’s cutting in skills. The only choice for the craft room had to be the rich and sumptuous purple Resene Arthouse. Apart from being a great colour, with a name like that she had to use it in her craft room. This completely covers one wall and one third of an adjacent side wall (more unkind words forthcoming from Lorrie’s painter brother!). The family/dining area has three walls in Resene Saratoga and the fourth in Resene Pavlova, while the back wall of the walk in pantry and the kitchen units have been finished in Resene Saratoga complemented by a black benchtop. The lounge has two walls in Resene Pirate Gold which was shockingly bright and rather scary when the first coat was applied but by the time the last coat was on and dry it was a lovely rich mustard that worked well with the Resene Pavlova on the other walls and the Resene Bracken on the chimney. The entranceway is also painted with Resene Wasabi and features three very cool triangle shelves in Resene Wasabi and Resene Saratoga. All the colours she has chosen work really well with the ‘new old furniture’ she has purchased recently and the great original artwork she has found in a variety of op-shops. Lorrie says "I love all the colours in my new home and am really glad that I was not afraid to use such bold and interesting colours."
