Welcome inProud owners of Fernglen B&B, Vera and Klaus, have transformed the look of their place with clever colour selections providing a welcoming and warm environment for guests. The living room did not leave much room for creative imagination. However, blessed with an unbeatable seaview and lots of all day sunshine it had some positive features worth building on. Separated from the adjoining dining and kitchen area the room was much smaller than it had to be, with extra space wasted in between the two levels. Knocking down the wall between living and dining area opened up the space. Dividing both rooms with the wooden poles and handy storage created an intimate feel and made the most of the much loved sunlight. With a country style finish the furniture now complements the Resene Astra paint finish and the pale wooden floors. The staircase has been transformed from uninspiring to striking. The wall, ideal for displaying masterpieces, and the warm dark color of the upstairs library led to stripping the grey carpet and polishing the solid timber staircase, which now makes it look like a historic piece of an old villa. A collection of accessories lend a soft touch to the matching Resene Astra wall colour. A library and theatre room was created out of a spare room providing a welcome space to unwind and relax. Dark warm Resene Prairie Sand complements the Resene Astra elsewhere. Spot lights provide cosy lighting. Once bright yellow, the first bedroom is now a nature trail of colours with its moss looking Resene Green Spring and bamboo wooden flooring. A feeling of less is more makes this room the perfect guest residence combining an earthy interior with an amazing view to the native bush outside. The second bedroom once bright red is now softened with Resene Echo Blue, a naturally cold blooded colour warmed by this typical country house, complementing the natural blues of nature. The room look is softened with some antique accessories and a collection of handmade teddy bears. The third bedroom has been redecorated to make the most of the exterior view, with Resene Sea Fog now complementing the swinging movement of the blue drapery and canopy hanging off the ceiling giving it a warm, yet misty appearance. The dark hallway that lacked life and sunlight has been warmed with Resene Xanadu on one half of the wall joined by pale plywood to give it a romantic touch with some matching focal accessories. Resene Cold Turkey combined with cream tiles, handy birch wooden floors, a matching colour benchtop and modern appliances improved both the visual appeal and the practicality of the kitchen. The east facing bathroom felt very dark with its opaque windows and darkish metallic interior. It had an old fashioned bath tub and plastic appliances aligned around the wall with impractical grey carpet. Painting the ceiling and upper parts of the wall in Resene Gin Fizz and tiling the entire room with modern stonewashed tiles opened up the bathroom and made it feel much more spacious and bright. Windows were replaced with clear glass and rattan blinds for privacy. With modern appliances and the corner bath as a focal point the room continues the nature driven palette through the house. With the decorating work complete, guests to Fernglen are now enjoying the fresh new looks.
