Yolanda has just completed her new build complete with a brave colour palette.
Her favourite part of the home is the kitchen which is completely custom built and made by fiance Kyle including concrete benches. The concrete bench tops took five weeks until they were cured and ready to be brought inside with the help of friends as they weigh a tonne!
Yolanda finds it hard to sum up the kitchen in one word as it is a mix of retro, 1950s diner, country and industrial. Most importantly, it is a happy and useable space.
The light shades over the breakfast bar island are from an old 1960s tractor shed in Ruakaka.
Kyle painted the kitchen with Resene Fringy Flower. The country cottage shelf in the corner was picked up for $25 and in a bad state. It was sanded back and painted to return it to its former glory in Resene Fringy Flower to match the kitchen. Kyle also did the tiling himself with large fish scale tiles.
They spent a year with a temporary camp kitchen until they saved up enough to buy the materials to make the kitchen.
Yolande also has a love for vintage garden ornaments which she paints with Resene testpots her grandad has given her over the years. He is a very loyal Resene man who refuses to use anything else. It's been great getting tips off him while doing these big painting jobs as he was a very fussy/perfectionist painter before retiring.
Yolanda's three children love that mum is back into baking again with a fully functioning kitchen!
Thanks to Yolanda.
