This 1970s John Scott designed home located in Taupo presented many challenges. It needed refurbishment, modernising and not the least maintaining. After winter they prioritised what needed to be done and one of the first things on the list was an external repaint on the concrete and cedar.
They used a basecoat of Resene X-200 weatherproof membrane in Resene Rakaia on the concrete block ensuring the minor cracks were filed with the Resene X-200. The block was then given two coats of Resene Lumbersider, also in Resene Rakaia. The cedar, previously coated with red paint was undercoated and then painted with Resene Lumbersider in Resene Sea Fog. This works exceptionally well with the internal louvre system.
To lift the paintwork and give it a 70s Scandinavian feel (plus some fun), they highlighted, in Resene Lumbersider Maestro, areas of cedar, a Juliette balcony, below a window seat and a kitchen wall.
Stained cedar exteriors, doors, window frames, louvres and garage doors were dark stained with Resene Woodsman Bark to improve the colour contrast and help preserve the wood.
Now they can’t wait to start inside. Resene Quarter Rice Cake is beckoning!
