Evan and Sharron took possession of a home that had been a rental for six years and had previously been owned by an elderly couple for 30 years prior to that. It was in need of some serious TLC.
The property had sat on the market for some time. They looked past all this and saw the potential. Over the next six months they estimate they removed 30 caged trailer loads of green waste, letting gardens, lawns and the clothes line see sunshine again, along the way discovering paths and garden edging. The house was covered in 1970s attachments - wooden shutters, scrolled edging under the spouting, a garden arch and plants taking over every wall space. All of these were removed.
They then had to decide on a colour. Both wanted to keep the wooden windows which would eventually get double glazed. They found a local house where they could see the colours working well on it, so knocked on their door. The owner was only too happy to share his colours – Resene Ironsand on the roof and fences and Resene Triple Thorndon Cream on the roughcast. The locals at the Resene ColorShop suggested they go with Resene Eighth Thorndon Cream on the windows.
Within seven days the remaining double glazing had been installed and the house painted. The results speak for themselves. Over the months they have constantly had people walking past commenting on the transformation that they have been seeing, much to their great satisfaction.
