Icing on the cake

With the exterior paint just finished it’s like the "icing on the cake". The project started 9 months prior on a rundown cream on cream run down villa. Walls of three rooms were taken out to create a new kitchen, family, dining area and a lounge turned back into the formal lounge area.

Many hours were spent planning the colour scheme, painting large cardboard sheets to take to the property before settlement paid off.

The colours are ‘inside and out’ with calculated risks that have paid off, such as Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen tinted to deep Resene Triple Masala for the hallway, which has become a real feature and atmospheric entrance to the grand old home. The extensive use of Resene Ash blends in with the planting and surrounding villas. The living room, kitchen, dining, family and bathroom walls and frames, doors and windows are finished in Resene Half Ash using Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen on walls and Resene Lustacryl on trims and joinery. The ceilings are finished in Resene Eighth Ash.

The end result reflects the mix of tone on tone with a lovely surprise at the end of the house with the new large living area soaked with a funky mix of ‘tropical’ colours. The kitchen features a wall of Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen tinted to Resene Opal and kitchen cabinets in Resene Enamacryl gloss waterborne enamel tinted to Resene Turbo.

The new bathroom area that was the laundry now features three wallpapers from Resene to give the area a bit of a ‘wow’ surprise and to complete the unique features there is a blackboard finish using Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Black in the toilet.

The bedroom features a wall of Resene Triple Masala with bedside cabinets in Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Black. Floors are finished in Resene Colorwood Pitch Black topcoated Resene Aquaclear. The exterior walls are finished in Resene Triple Ash with window trim in Resene Double Masala banishing the once cream on cream look to the history books.
