Lovely and light

The Bates family bought a glass artist's two storey studio and have since converted it into a home for their family of four. The building had previously been divided between a cathedral ceiling gallery which displayed the glass art, a workshop with furnace where the art was created and several storage rooms.

They kept the cathedral ceiling as they loved the light it brought into the building and now use this area as the living and dining room, which is connected to the kitchen. They divided the workshop into a lounge and study. The storage areas are now the master bedroom, a bathroom, toilet, scullery, laundry and mud room. The Bates extended the upstairs area to create two bedrooms, bathroom and small sitting area for their two children.

Throughout the house they have used Resene China Ivory on the walls with feature walls of Resene Fog and Resene Spray in their daughters' rooms. They used wallpaper sourced through Resene to make a feature strip in the living area. Wallpaper from Resene was also used to cover panels on all wardrobe doors.
