Modern metallic planter

Make a real style statement with this sleek metallic planter.

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 04

Difficulty level: Easy

You will need: Paintbrush,Resene Enamacryl Metallic (now Resene FX Metallic) tinted to Resene Isobar and Resene Obelisk, Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Corduroy and Resene Submarine, Resene Multishield+ (now Resene Concrete Clear) Gloss, Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat, Resene Testpot in Resene Black, ribbed terracotta pot (320mm high), small flat-headed artist’s brush, small paint roller, terracotta sealer.

To get the look: Mark painted the surrounding wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Swans Down.

Other ideas: For a rich, sumptuous look try using a combination of Resene Magma and Resene Bullion from the Resene Metallics & Specialist Effects range.

Step 1
Step one
Seal the inside and base of the pot with terracotta sealer, following manufacturer’s instructions. Allow to dry.
Step 2
Step two
Prime the inner edge, rim and outside of the pot with one coat of Resene Quick Dry Acrylic Primer Undercoat. Allow to dry.
Step 3
Step three
Using the paintbrush, paint the inner edge, rim and outside of the pot with one coat of Resene Corduroy. Allow to dry.
Step 4
Step four
Using the paintbrush, paint the inner edge, rim and outside of the pot with one coat of Resene Isobar. Once dried, apply a second coat. Allow to dry.
Step 5
Step five
With the small roller, apply a coat of Resene Submarine to the raised ridges around the pot (use a light, horizontal action to avoid getting paint into the crevices). Allow to dry.
Step 6
Step six
With the small roller, apply a coat of Resene Obelisk to the raised ridges around the pot (this time use a light, vertical action to ensure Resene Submarine is fully covered). Once dried, apply a second coat. Allow to dry.
Step 7
Step seven
Using the small artist’s brush, apply a coat of Resene Black to the inner rim of the pot. Once dried, apply a second coat. Allow to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply one coat of Resene Multishield+ (now Resene Concrete Clear) Gloss to intensify colours and create a glossy finish. Allow to dry.
