Black & white abstract
Create this striking vibrant abstract painting using two strongly contrasting Resene colours.
Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 58
Difficulty level: Moderate
You will need: Artists’ canvas, low tack masking tape, paintbrushes (including a medium artists’ brush), pencil, Resene Quick Dry, Resene testpots of Resene Alabaster and Resene Black, ruler.
To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Galliano.
Other ideas: Try a rich pink combination painting stripes of Resene Glamour Puss over a background of Resene Soft Pink.
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry
to the canvas and allow two hours to dry.
Apply two coats of Resene Alabaster
to the canvas, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Using a ruler and pencil to ensure lines are parallel, mask off a series of random stripes across the canvas using low tack masking tape.
Continue until the canvas is completely covered with masked lines.
Apply a line of Resene Alabaster
to the edges of the masked lines, as shown and allow to dry. This will prevent the darker colour from bleeding through later on.
Apply one coat of Resene Black
to the masked off stripes, as shown, and allow two hours to dry.
Apply a second coat of Resene Black
to the masked off stripes.
Before the second coat has dried, carefully remove the masking tape. Allow to dry for two hours.
