The idea was to make the unit as bright and airy as possible using a combination of warm neutrals.
This little project was an absolute joy. The unit, which was created out of a section of garage, was visualised by the designer long before the project started.
The idea was to make the unit as bright and airy as possible using a combination of warm neutrals – Resene Zylone Sheen in Resene Quarter Bianca and Resene Lustacryl in Resene Quarter Blanc, blended with upcycled furniture, some finished in Resene Colorwood Touch Wood, for a relaxing space that also felt modern and stylist. It also needed to feel grounded with natural textures, such as rough wood and polished concrete, bound together with a two sided feature wall using Resene Wallpaper Collection 25760 giving the effect of painted brick. The ceiling was finished in Resene SpaceCote Flat White.
The unit was created to feel at one with nature, with full height patio doors and windows stretching the width of the bedroom giving unspoilt views across the grounds, to the creek and the Richmond ranges beyond.
Laura feels neutrals don't always get the recognition they deserve. For this project the main focus was on relaxation and connecting with nature. The palette needed to avoid anything too garish and instead create a warm and comforting environment that was gentle on the senses while still emanating a sleek interior design feel.
The idea was a blend of nature and sophistication, rough and smooth, wild mixed with tamed. Looking to the views outdoor and as the colour palette of nature is constantly changing, the interior colour palette is designed to always be able to reflect what was outside and never be in conflict with it. In this way, it would enhance not onto the enjoyment of both the interior décor and the outside landscape but also allow for a more relaxing overall feel when lying in bed looking out.
With a passion for upcycling and the need to make some custom pieces for this project, Laura was delighted to be able to use Resene products for these too.
Although this is only a small project, the finished project shows how the use of neutrals can be as striking as bold colours.
