Victorian Terrace

Potts Point, New South Wales

The result is a sublime palette choreographed to enhance and balance room moods while showcasing the client’s beautiful collectibles.

A winner in Resene Total Colour Awards 2013

Terry Hogg, of lick light + colour was commissioned to develop a distinctive interior colour scheme for Sydney based accessories designer Peter Lang, in his newly refurbished Victorian terrace in Elizabeth Bay.

Terry always begins with the space and the light. And then it’s about the client themselves. Everybody has a colour sense, even if they’re not aware of it. He likes to build a level of trust and entice the client with the possibilities for their project. Initially, it’s about visualising and sharing with the client what they can’t see in a space. Then the client is taken through their own process of exploring possibility and adventure. People have an emotional response to colour so it’s never about forcing the designer’s ideas. It’s about leading them beyond what they think is possible.

The result is a sublime palette choreographed to enhance and balance room moods while showcasing the client’s beautiful collectibles. Clever use of vibrant hues balanced with complex neutrals creates a sophisticated and indulgent colour scheme. Resene Zylone Sheen and Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen and Flat were used through this home so the palette of rich colours is viewed through low sheen and flat finishes.

Upon entering the house you are immediately confronted with the cocooning universe of pure colour Resene Scarlett. Throughout the interior a custom-mixed Resene minimalist white provides the perfect backdrop for the client’s impressive collection of art.

Modern kitchen

The piece de resistance in this innovative colour scheme is the framing of the Murano Chandeliers with Resene Decadence. A bold splash of Resene Troubadour and Resene Desperado behind the original marble mantle evokes the hues of the paintings in the room.

Moving into the all-white Resene Alabaster kitchen-dining area provides a breathing space – and the perfect counterpoint to the world of colour up front.

Providing a serene and sumptuous transition to the upper level, one stairwell wall features the blackened navy of Resene Indian Ink, which offers a striking complement to the Resene Kaitoke Green that wraps from the landing into the hall.

Resene Oilskin was selected for its complexity for the master bedroom to create a rich masculine ambience. The guest bedroom is enveloped in the luxurious dark grey of Resene Cliffhanger.
