Paint a cactus painting for your home

Resene art with Mark Rayner - Project 99

Difficulty level: Easy

You will need: Paintbrushes, pre-primed artists’ canvas, Resene testpots of Resene Bilbao, Resene Black, Resene Gold Coast and Resene Picton Blue.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Half Grey Chateau.

Other ideas: For a brighter effect paint the cactus with Resene Wellywood and the sky with Resene Malibu.

Step one
Paint the sky with one coat of Resene Picton Blue and allow to dry.

Step two
Paint the sky with a second coat of Resene Picton Blue and allow to dry.

Step three
Paint the ground with one coat of Resene Gold Coast and allow to dry.

Step four
Paint the ground with a second coat of Resene Gold Coast and allow to dry.

Step five
Paint the cactus with one coat of Resene Bilbao and allow to dry.

Step six
Paint the cactus with a second coat of Resene Bilbao and allow to dry.

Step seven
Paint cactus spines with Resene Black and allow to dry.

Step eight
Paint the edges of the canvas and a frame around the picture with two coats of Resene Black, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
