Making your interior inviting and interesting yet not bland or too much of a mishmash can be as simple as combining a harmonious selection of warm tones that offer variation in a cohesive way, then tying things together with texture. Our beautifully homely colour palette includes grain-like ochre Resene Amaranth and ginger-tan Resene Yogi on the walls, with soft beige Resene Otter underfoot.
Natural materials graciously do the heavy lifting with their innately grounding presence. Introduce any number of textures – we’ve favoured timber, rattan and ceramics, plus an aged-metal effect on the sideboard.
Dining chairs make a great entry level project for DIY enthusiasts wanting to stamp a desired look on their stuff with relative ease. We sourced ours second-hand, gave their legs a light sand, then painted them with Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Pandemonium, a deliciously rich shade that works well with our walls, in a high-gloss finish for a little polish. We then reupholstered the seats, a simple matter of unscrewing the originals and stapling on new fabric.
When choosing which Resene paints to use to create a varied yet united effect throughout your house, visit your local Resene ColorShop for A4 swatches to hang on your walls, so you can see how the light hits each hue in each room at different times of the day. You’ll find this an invaluable step in the process and key to confident decision-making.
