You will need: Bathroom cabinet, Cardboard, Craft knife, Low-tack masking tape, Paintbrushes (including an artists’ brush), Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Kitsch, Resene Pelorous and Resene Rubber Duck, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, Resene Testpots of Resene Alabaster and Resene Black, ‘Rubber Duck’ stencil downloaded and printed from the Resene website, Sandpaper, Spray adhesive

Top tip: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom tinted to Resene Spray.

How to paint a bathroom cabinet

Step one
Lightly sand the bathroom cabinet to provide a ‘key’ and apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer. Allow two hours to dry.

Step two
Apply two coats of Resene Kitsch to the inside, shelves, and outer sides of the bathroom cabinet, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step three
Apply two coats of Resene Pelorous to the cabinet door, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step four
Fix the printed stencil to the cardboard with spray adhesive, and once dry, cut out the stencil shape with a craft knife.

Step five
Fix the stencil into position with low tack masking tape, as shown.

Step six
Carefully paint up to the stencil edge using Resene Rubber Duck, taking care not to apply the paint too heavily or it might bleed under the edges of the stencil. Remove the stencil. Once the paint has dried, repeat steps five and six for the two other duck shapes.
