Just when you thought you had seen it all, along comes a designer who uses traditional materials in innovative ways to create a kitchen that offers something a little different.

For this project, interior designer Natalie Du Bois specified backpainted glass cabinets, painted in Resene Double Canterbury Clay. The designer says the rich caramel colour of the doors enhances the kitchen’s café look – and the chocolate confectionary colour scheme.

Karen Warman, Resene marketing manager, says Resene Double Canterbury Clay typifies the current trend towards colours that take their cues from nature.

“People are a lot more focussed on wellbeing and healthy living, and the colour directions for 2010 reflect this,” she says. “At the same time, there is a definite move towards sophisticated palettes – again this kitchen is evidence of this trend.”

Warman says Resene takes a strong stand on environmental sustainability. The company has an extensive range of Environmental Choice-approved products and recommends Resene Zylone Sheen Zero waterborne low sheen for interior broadwall areas, such as lounges and bedrooms. This Environmental Choice-approved paint is free of added VOCs, which means it can help prevent headaches, asthma, nausea, respiratory complaints and allergic reactions.
