How to paint your own galaxy shoes

• Canvas shoes
• A variety of artist paintbrush sizes, including a very slim one
• Piece of foam
• Paint mixing tray or plate
• Resene testpots in your choice of colours, Fleur used Resene Aviator, Resene Black and Resene White

Instructions

Step 1:  Start by removing the laces from a pair of simple canvas shoes. (Photo 1).

Step 2:  Paint the shoe in Resene Aviator.  You don’t need to paint right to the edge of the rubber sole yet. (Photo 2).

Step 3:  Using Resene Black and a medium sized artist paintbrush, paint carefully around the edge of the sole.  Merge the paint in with the Resene Aviator and you can also use Resene Black to darken other areas of the shoes, such as around the laces. (Photo 3).

Step 4:  Mix a little of the Resene White with Resene Aviator to make a mid-blue colour.  Use a small piece of foam to dab on to the shoe, making some areas lighter. (Photo 4).

Step 5:  With the dry end of the foam, dab it very lightly into the Resene White, wipe off any excess paint, and dab the foam lightly on to the shoe to create many tiny stars.  Do this at random internals around the shoe. (Photo 5).

Step 6:  Using a very thin crafting paint brush, dab and paint on a variety of different sized stars with Resene White and the mid-blue paint colour that you made earlier. (Photo 6).

Step 7:  Allow the paint to dry before re-lacing. (Photo 7).

Top tip: Paint on touches of Resene FX Metallic using a Resene testpot for extra bling.
