Habitat bright ideas with Fleur Thorpe – DIY projects
Paint your cactus pots in Resene colours to suit your favourite cacti. Choose tonal colours for a subtle finish or go bright and bold for an unmissable feature.
Step 1
Start by sealing the terracotta pots with Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer.
Step 2
When the sealer has dried, decide where the light areas of your pot are going to be and paint these with two coats of Resene Laurel.
Step 3
Paint the remaining areas in two coats of Resene Gondwana – these are the shadow areas.
Step 4
Finish the painting by adding on some prickles with a thin craft paintbrush and Resene Quarter Parchment. Go over the prickles again while the paint is still wet with some Resene Double Pavlova for a bit of colour variation.
Step 5
Once the paint is dry, line the bottom of both pots with some stones, add in some good quality potting mix suitable for cactus and succulents and add in your favourite cactus and succulents.
Top tip: Finish the pot exterior in Resene Concrete Clear gloss for a higher sheen finish.
