It doesn’t take much paint to make a difference, so celebrate the new season with a new look.
I know after years as editor of this magazine you’d expect me to be a bit of a colour nut, but even I got the shivers when I opened up the new Resene The Range fashion colours 16 fandeck. Saturated pastel pinks, duck egg blues, cool clean greys, soft tangerine oranges and citrusy yellows – it’s a rich wonderland of on-trend tones perfect for today’s homes. And then there are the new names: Resene Scrumptious, Resene Irresistible, Resene Juicy, Resene Sunkissed, Resene Dauntless. What clever person comes up with all of these?
To find out more about the philosophy behind the development of the new range and some of the new colours, see "fashion forward". And for the thrill of seeing the full fandeck, head down to your local Resene ColorShop or reseller.
The other big news on the Resene horizon was the recent announcement of the Resene Total Colour Awards – see "side by side" for the winners of the residential sections. For more inspiration, see our feature homes this issue: one with dreamy coastal colours in "coast meets country" and the other with a delicious array of candy colours in "pick & mix".
Hone up on your colour blocking skills in "how to colour block", and see how to use wallpapers in some unusual ways in "ways with wallpaper".
It doesn’t take much paint to make a difference, so celebrate the new season with a new look… maybe in the aptly named Resene Unwind from the new fandeck for a relaxing summer.

If you work for a paint company, if something stands still long enough it eventually ends up with paint on it. But even with our penchant for painting, we’ve been surprised at the cleverness of decorators using Resene paint colours in unexpected ways. We’ve all seen feature walls and pops of colour on walls, but forward-thinking decorators are now looking... up. A ceiling is an unfettered area where colour can really command attention without being cluttered by other features like windows and furniture. Many a sick day has been spent passing the time staring at a ceiling so why not choose an uplifting colour you can enjoy?
We’ve also seen a whole host of clever colour blocking ideas. The feature wall was a forerunner to this, with a block of one colour set against adjacent colours, however these new colour block looks combine any manner of shapes and colours to great effect. For those who can never decide on just one colour, colour blocking lets you indulge all your colour favourites at once.
And paint effects are back… not the ragrolling and stippling of years gone by, but reinterpreted using masking tape and multiple paint colours to turn walls into personalised statements of style.
With new ways to use multiple colours and a canvas of ceilings waiting for you to transform them from white to wonderful, your home can be a colour lover’s dream. Pop into your local Resene ColorShop or reseller for some colour inspiration; while we treat you with our regular fashion collections, there are myriad other choices from our many colour ranges. Happy decorating!
