Resene kids art with Mark Rayner - Project 40

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Bubble wrap, Cardboard box, Ice cream container, Paintbrushes, Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer undercoat , Resene Testpots in the following colours: Resene Grass Stain, Resene Guardsman Red and Resene Space Cadet, Scissors, Wide sticky tape or parcel tape

Top tip: If you want a shiny finish on your wastepaper bin, just apply one coat of Resene Multishield+ gloss (now Resene Concrete Clear) once the final coat of paint is dry.

Here's another idea: Transform a Resene paint pot into a mini wastepaper bin using testpots of Resene Turbo and Resene Resolution Blue.

Step 1

Strengthen the base of the box by fixing sticky tape along the joins – cut the sticky tape with scissors.

Open up the top flaps of the box and fix together on both sides with sticky tape.
Step 3

Paint the entire box with one coat of Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer undercoat, allowing one hour to dry.

Paint the inside of the box with two coats of Resene Space Cadet, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Paint the outside of the box with two coats of Resene Guardsman Red, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Tip a little Resene Grass Stain into an ice cream container and dip a piece of scrunched up bubble wrap into the paint. Lightly dab the bubble wrap on the outside of the box, creating a textured pattern, as shown. Once finished, allow to dry for two hours – then get tidying!
