Metallic rocking horse

Transform an old painted rocking horse into a metallic masterpiece with a little bit of help from Resene.

Resene Toys and Games with Mark Rayner - Project 30

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloth, coloured fake fur, old wooden rocking horse, paintbrush, pliers, Resene FX Metallic tinted to Resene Funtasia, Resene FX Metallic tinted to Resene Sugar And Spice, Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Daisy Bush, Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Strikemaster, Resene Quick Dry, sandpaper, scissors, screwdriver, staple gun.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Paua.

Other ideas: Create a golden rocking horse by painting with a basecoat of Resene Apache and two topcoats of Resene Gold Dust.

Carefully remove the old mane and tail from the rocking horse.
Step 2

Lightly sand the whole rocking horse to ‘key’ the surface and wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.

Spot prime any areas of bare wood with Resene Quick Dry and allow to dry.
Step 4

Apply one coat of Resene Strikemaster to the main rocking horse body and allow to dry.

Apply one coat of Resene Daisy Bush to the rocking horse base and allow to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Apply two coats of Resene Sugar And Spice to the main rocking horse body, dabbing the paint in different directions to get a stippled effect. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.

Apply two coats of Resene Funtasia to the rocking horse base, dabbing the paint in different directions to get a stippled effect. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Cut two pieces of coloured fake fur for the mane and the tail and attach using a staple gun.
