“When I first received my Resene colour ‘Hyperactive’ my first inspiration came from the name itself. Hyperactive in its meaning has quite a youthful description to me. It has a very fun. Playful, adventurous energy and I knew straight away that this was something I wanted to portray through my design.
I then explored that idea even deeper and found further inspiration in the word Hyperactive as this was exactly how I felt when we were asked to interpret our emotions coming out of lockdown. I wanted to explore, get dirty, feel the Earth under my feet and feel free like I did when I was a kid.
The feeling of finally being able to go outside and enjoy the natural world around me made me realise how much I took that for granted before and how differently I now view what had once been so readily available to me. All of these things were elements I wanted to incorporate into my final design and it became something quite personal to me throughout the design process.
I wanted to portray a fresh, carefree energy that you could imagine someone having almost thrown together themselves, while still being of high quality and beautifully executed.”
