Make old new again with Resene Laminate and Melamine Primer and your favourite Resene topcoats

You can easily refresh old laminate and melamine surfaces by painting over them. Make old out of date colours and styles look new again with Resene Laminate and Melamine Primer and your chosen Resene topcoat.

Refresh old cabinets by painting over old laminate or melamine

Resene Laminate and Melamine Primer is a waterborne 'adhesion primer' designed for use over a series of surfaces usually considered difficult to coat or in need of expensive pre-treatment. It's fast drying, easy to apply and works with a wide range of Resene waterborne topcoats.

All you need to do is clean, apply one coat of primer and then two coats of topcoat for a fresh new look at a fraction of a cost of replacement. This paint system is ideal for laminate and melamine surfaces on everything from walls to cabinetry.

Popular topcoats to use over surfaces primed with Resene Laminate and Melamine primer:

For cabinetry

Apply two coats of Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel for an easy clean finish on cupboards, drawers and more. If you're using light colours in kitchens and bathrooms, choose the kitchen and bathroom version – Resene Lustacryl Kitchen & Bathroom – for added anti-bacterial silver and MoulDefender protection.

For a higher sheen finish, apply two coats of Resene Enamacryl gloss waterborne enamel. The higher sheen will be even easier to clean, but is best on better quality surfaces. For well worn surfaces use the lower sheen of Resene Lustacryl to help hide more imperfections than a higher gloss finish.

Top tip: Add new handles to your drawers and cabinetry to complete your new look.

For walls

Apply two coats of Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen for an easy-on-the-eyes finish that isn't glary. It's also easy to clean and the low sheen finish will help to hide imperfections. If you're using light colours in kitchens and bathrooms, choose the kitchen and bathroom version – Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom – for added anti-bacterial silver and MoulDefender protection.

For a higher sheen finish, apply two coats of Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss enamel, either the standard version or the kitchen and bathroom version. The higher sheen will be even easier to clean but can be glary if used on all surfaces in a well-lit space.

If you're getting new painted cabinetry, check your supplier is using Resene AquaLAQ to get the authentic Resene colour finish you have chosen.
