Colour has a significant impact on the way we feel. For the new Auckland Hospital, the designers specified high-performance Resene paints in a mix of calm and vibrant colours.

Fixtures and fittings in hospitals need to be able to withstand considerable wear and tear. But they can still introduce a decorative element to wards and theatres – even a sterile environment doesn’t have to look that way.

For the new Auckland Hospital, many thousands of litres of Resene Spacecote Low Sheen adorns the interior, paper-faced plasterboard. This waterborne enamel product provides a tough, durable, low-sheen finish. While calming and welcoming colours were specified for the wards, the more public areas feature vibrant shades that convey feelings of energy, warmth and wellness.

The paper-faced plasterboard in sterile areas, such as operating rooms and suites, is finished with Resene Aquapoxy and two topcoats of Resene Uracryl 402.

Resene marketing manager Karen Warman says this high-performance, two-component finish coat is designed to provide extra-strong resistance to abrasion, moisture and oils.

“The most unusual feature of Resene Uracryl 402 is the sophisticated combination of aliphatic urethanes and urethane-reactive acrylic resins that provide the necessary durability and colour retention,” she says.
