The refurbishment of this historic building included the selection of environmentally friendly paints from Resene.
Undertaking a major renovation project provides an opportunity to introduce materials that are more in tune with modern requirements.
When the Manukau Institute of Technology's 100-year-old NA block was extensively refurbished, materials were chosen to reflect the institute's focus on innovation, and its environmental and health principles.
Environmentally friendly paint finishes feature on the exterior, with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Tequila (yellow oxide) on the walls. Resene Lustacryl is used on trim, spouting and soffits. Exposed bricks are now protected with Resene Multishield+ acrylic glaze, which has a smooth, easy-clean surface.
To retain the traditional look of the interior, Resene Environmental Choice-approved waterborne paints were chosen.
Resene Spacecote Low Sheen waterborne enamel features on walls and ceilings. Timber windowsills and skirts are painted with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Digeridoo. Other smooth-stained areas were painted with a Resene sealer to promote adhesion of topcoats. Remaining rimu was stained with Resene Waterborne Colorwood tinted to Resene Meranti.
