It’s not just the flower beds that command attention at this park – a Chinese pavilion handpainted with Resene paints is a colourful addition.

Introducing colour to your landscaping isn’t necessarily dependent on the flowering plants you choose. Structural elements can also add a splash of colour, as this project illustrates.

The Chinese garden in Brooklands Park, New Plymouth, is a gift from sister city Kumming City in China. With its brightly painted Springwind Pavilion and eye-catching Moon Gate, the garden is a drawcard for both visitors and locals.

The pavilion was painted with Resene Quick Dry acrylic primer undercoat, followed by two coats of Resene Hi-Glo gloss acrylic.

Resene marketing manager Karen Warman says the artwork, by Chinese craftsmen, was painted freestyle, without the safety of a blueprint. The design was based on blocks of colour and symmetry, and incorporates small cameo classical landscape scenes.

Resene Hi-Glo acrylic is based on a 100% acrylic formulation for ease of application. The formulation ensures maximum life for coatings on primed timber and galvanised steel. It is also well suited for direct application to cement and concrete.

Resene Hi-Glo is available in any of the colours in the Resene Hi-Glo colour range, or more than 3000 colours in the Resene Total Colour System.
