Instructions

Step 1 Step 1
Start by cutting your board into three 40cm long lengths and three 10cm long lengths. Sand any rough edges smooth and wipe off sanding dusts. Prime the boards with one coat of Resene Quick Dry.

Step 2 Step 2
Paint one of the short boards and on the diagonal paint over half of one of the long boards in Resene Pirate Gold. Paint the other boards in Resene Spinnaker and Resene Calypso.

Step 3 Step 3
Once the paint is dry, use painters tape to tape off the long boards on an angle and paint on Resene Planter with the board already painted in Resene Pirate Gold; Resene Lemon Ginger with Resene Spinnaker; and Resene Mexican Red with Resene Calypso.

Step 4 Step 4
Once the paint is dry, use some wood glue to attach the short piece of board to the long piece of board. Use an electric drill and screws to secure it. Fleur also added an angle bracket for extra strength.

Step 5 Step 5
Use clear waterproof sealant to glue a small glass bowl on to the short board (Fleur found her bowls at an op shop).

Step 6 Step 6
Drill two sets of holes on either side of the bottle at the top and bottom and thread some 16 gauge wire through the holes to hold the bottle in place. Make sure the bottle sits slightly above the bottom of the bowl. Twist the wire ends together at the back. Drill a hole at the top of the board so that the feeder can be hung by a nail or screw.

Step 7 Step 7
Finish by using a kitchen funnel to pour some bird seed into each of the bottles.

Step 8 Top tip
If you’d prefer your bird feeders so they blend into your garden, finish them with Resene Waterborne Woodsman wood stain in place of Resene paint. Resene Waterborne Woodsman will allow the wood grain finish to show through.
