On trend

Interiors – from Latitude magazine

We talk to Resene Colour Consultant Rebecca Long about what is on the horizon when it comes to colour.

What can we expect to see in 2019?

Lots of deep neutrals such as Resene Porter and Resene Extraterrestrial which are strong and determined; alongside a new wave of rich, bronzed neutrals like the sultry Resene Swiss Caramel.

Vintage reds such as Resene Courage are adding glamour paired with the likes of Resene Rose Gold, and blues and greys are blending to create moody, muted hues. Try Resene Artemis and Resene Triple Duck Egg Blue.

Room: Resene Thumbs Up, Resene Albescent White, Resene Half Dusted Blue; Stylist – Amber Armitage.  Mood board: Resene Black White, Resene Nero, Resene Gravel, Resene Delta, Resene Double Merino, Resene Atmosphere, Resene Quarter Gravel; Stylist – Megan Harrison-Turner; Photography – Melanie Jenkins.

How do these new trends differ from last year?

Colours are becoming more weathered and subtle, and we are continuing to appreciate soft, tonal transitions. Colours are becoming richer, warmer and more grounded. Pinks are becoming peachier and we are pairing nudes with fresh new tones of lilac.

How can I implement these into my home?

If you’re keen to experiment with new colours but are afraid of committing straight away – start small. Use Resene testpots to paint a variety of pots, create an abstract piece of art or even jazz up an old lightshade. Once you feel confident, why not update your front door or create a new colourful statement wall in your living room.

How do I keep up to date with colour trends?

There are so many ways! Resene ColorShops are always showcasing the latest trends and are a great place to find inspiration. Follow @resenecolour on Instagram and make sure that you’re signed up for the Resene Habitat by Resene newsletter at habitatbyresene.co.nz.
