Revamp an old trolley for drinks with a twist.
This classic old wooden trolley was looking quite battered and dowdy. All it needed was fresh coats of black to add a little gloss and glamour.
Step 1: Typical of many older pieces of furniture, the trolley was covered with the remains of a dark brown stain. Rather than sand it, the simplest way to prepare the wood for painting was to scrub it back using Resene Timber and Deck Wash and a scrubbing brush. It’s best to do outside. Wear gloves to protect your hands. Scrub the trolley all over then wash it thoroughly with plenty of water and allow it to dry.
Step 2: It’s usually best to prime the timber first using Resene Quick Dry and allow to dry. This will help give your topcoat even coverage.

Step 3: Once dry, paint the trolley in Resene Enamacryl. I chose a gloss paint finish for a reflective, smooth surface that is hard wearing and easy to wipe down. As a waterborne enamel paint it’s also easy to clean up after use. I chose the shade Resene Invincible, a sophisticated tempered, steel charcoal black.
Begin painting from the top and work your way down, catching any dribbles as you go. Try not to overwork each painted surface as it will lessen the gloss effect.
Step 4: Allow to fully dry, before loading your newly revamped drinks trolley ready for seasonal celebrations!
