Mural theme:
Local stories. The mural tells many stores of the local area using Cliff Whiting’s art as inspiration.
Background to mural creation:
The students talked to Johan Groters about the legends of the area, and read the local stories and the truth behind them. Inspired by Cliff Whiting the students went to Bluff Marae to learn more and get inspired for their own mural.
The boards symbolise Lake Hauroko, the Waiau River, Takitimu mountains, Clifden and the earth – representing nature and untouched land before people inhabited the land.
