Mural Masterpieces - Mangonui Primary School
Location: Team: Accessible to public: Mural theme: Background to mural creation: Students were selected to contribute to the mural. The senior school created plywood cutouts of children in action using a camera and the computer to generate their drawings, the jig saw to cut the figures out and then handpainting them. These kids in action represent the students of Mangonui School. The juniors worked on fish drawings that represent the ika in Mangonui Harbour, which also represent the students of Mangonui School. In the final mural the fish are placed first then the people/students. The last three people cut-outs are of a netball player, rugby player and a teacher, which represent what the students may become when they leave Mangonui School and start their next big adventure. All of the students were involved in the processes of creating the mural from concept drawings, enlarging, sanding and plywood prep work, base painting and detailing.
