Mural Masterpieces - St Josephs SchoolLocation: Accessible to public: Mural theme: Background to mural creation: The mural has three sections: Curiosity is represented by Eden and Albert. Eden is looking back to the past. The old church with a Sister of Mercy represents the past. The pathway shows a few tiles with mainly the Catholic Focus. Some tiles are left unadorned as we all have our own memories of special times at school. Only one Sister is painted due to the editing process. Adding more nuns seemed to take away the primary focus. The sepia tones acknowledge the past. The ‘point of focus’ is on the children. This is what the mural is all about: their journey. The fantail represents curiosity and also Upper Hutt city. Enquiry learning: The symbols on the tiles represent the different curriculum focus throughout the journey of being educated. The ‘future’ tiles refer to working towards health, wealth and happiness. Inclusiveness: Symbols and flags represent all the different nationalities found at the school. This just doesn’t mean the children but also refers to the teachers at school too.
