God’s creation.
Background to mural creation:
Once a very bland and boring playground, the mural was created to link in with an art extension focus with students and to beautify the grounds.
There are five pieces of artwork. Every student followed the same basic steps. Discussion, choice of subject, drawing to the size required (no overhead projector), cut out the shape, tracing the outline with chalk onto the mural. Some students sandpapered the cut-outs, primer was applied, base colour and then detail and texture added with sponges, cardboard edge printing, corks for circles, paintbrush handles for circles, ice block sticks and stipple brushes. The experience the children gained was amazing.
The mural now has pride in place in the school ground and the families and whanau that have viewed and enjoyed the finished product has added to the depth and pride this learning has created.
