Background to mural creation:
This mural was created to celebrate some of the important parts of the school and environment.
The reveal of the mural commenced at 5.40am in the morning. It was very important to get the mural blessed by Hone Rapata, former student and school kaumatua, before the sun came up as a sign of new life and ensuring a strong connection with the spirit realm.
The awa (river) represents all the raruraru that this school has been through. It is also a symbol of peace once the raru has flowed like the water in the awa. As you can see today the raruraru has settled just like the river on a calm day.
