The story of our community/area, past and present.
Background to mural creation:
The mural is designed to teach children about their story by breaking it down in 12 parts so each can be remembered in a visual way – monarch butterflies/metamorphosis, Houhora harbour/Mt Camel/hibiscus, Houhora/feathers, Tamatea, Tui on flax, Kai Moana, Pohutukawa, Godwit, Kowhai, Kina shells with Far North map, Fish, Humpback whale, and it all come back to one Chinese symbol focusing on being kind.
The design was inspired by the children. It gives the children a strong base and sense of identity, while also brightening the school.
