Background to mural creation:
This building was scheduled for earthquake strengthening and was due for a general facelift. The external wall at first floor level has had a mural on the façade for many years, which was a feature of the locality but which was badly faded. The owners decided to re-clad the upper storey and have a new mural painted.

The criteria for the mural was:

• To echo the theme of the old mural done when it fronted a potter’s workshop.
• To introduce features appropriate to a seafood restaurant.
• It must be zany, have humour.
• It should be colourful.
