What do you love most about our cool little school? Background to mural creation: The school wanted the mural to be very personal to the school, pupils and teachers. A mum, Inga Fillary, came up with the idea that all pupils would be invited to do a painting of what they loved about Matipo. They would have received over 40 amazing pieces of art ranging from new entrant to year 6.

Inga then realised that they couldn’t just pick three pictures (which was the original plan) and that they wanted all who had participated to be involved. So Inga took one piece of each picture to create this collaborative mural. She enlarged it by overhead projector then traced that picture straight onto the wood exactly how the child had drawn it. Then each child was called in and got to paint their part of the mural, in the exact colours that were on their original picture. This was a very long but rewarding process.

The mural now portrays all the amazing things about the school that many adults may not have noticed before.
