Kotahitanga – looking back at lockdown.
Background to mural creation:
This mural is the product of an annual art project for selected Year 6 students. The 2020 mural project could not happen due to the lockdown, so students in 2021 asked to acknowledge this by reflecting on how our school and local community and our country as a whole, pulled together in our efforts to contain the virus. Together they discussed and decided on 10 main ideas relating to their experience and understanding of the lockdown. These are depicted in bubbles along with extra striped bubbles in familiar yellow stripes. The title Kotahitanga is a school value that celebrates working together for a common purpose, which is what the students agreed that they did in creating the mural and also what New Zealand did being a team of five million.
