Toy chair

It’s easy to create this vibrant chair for toys and dolls with a little bit of help from Resene.

Resene Toys and Games with Mark Rayner - Project 35

Difficulty level:  Moderate

You will need:

  • 190mm x 20mm timber cut to the following lengths:
    • 2 x 210mm (side supports)
    • 2 x 500mm (back)
    • 380mm (seat)
    • 20mm x 20mm x 380mm timber (top edge)
  • 50mm panel pins and 65mm screws
  • Clean cloth
  • Drill with 3mm drill bit
 

To get the look:  Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Fringy Flower.

Other ideas:  For a bright orange effect paint the chair with Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Hi Jinx.

Step 1

Measure, mark and cut the timber to the dimensions listed above.
Step 2
Step two
Clamp one of the side supports to the underside edge of the seat, as shown and fix with PVA glue and 65mm screws. Drill pilot holes first and countersink the screw heads. Repeat with the second side support.
Step 3

Attach the back into position, as shown. Again, fix with PVA glue and 65mm screws, drilling pilot holes first and countersinking the screw heads.
Step 4
Step four
Attach the top edge along the top of the back, as shown, fixing with PVA glue and 50mm panel pins. Punch the nail heads into the wood with a nail punch.
Step 5
Step five
Fill the screw and nail heads with Resene EzyFill Quick and allow to dry.
Step 6
Step six
Sand the entire chair and wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 7
Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the chair and allow to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Gorse to the chair, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
