“Drawing number 5 and seeing the name Resene Windfall before my actual colour, I knew from the name it was going to be a calm cool colour, maybe a blue or green. It turned out to be a mix of both. Described by Resene as a ‘provocative blue and bold green mix, clear headed and casual in ambience.’
One definition of ‘Windfall’ is ‘fruit fallen from a tree by the wind’. I took this definition and the name literally and drew inspiration from the act and movement of the fruit during its downfall from a tree. I drew connections from falling fruit/leaves to human experience and how going through life’s dark trials are inevitable in a person’s journey. Or in other words, person’s downward spiral or ‘falling’ until they pick themselves up again. These ups and downs of a person’s life is movement in itself and something I wanted to reflect in my final garment.
I took to the theme of a ‘super-current’ look by evaluating the values and principles of today’s society. Social media is massive and the topic of body positivity and self-love is important more so today than half a century ago. Size 10 isn’t the only socially accepted size anymore and being confident in your own skin is important in today’s culture. Wearing anything that makes your feel confident is a massive trend and I wanted to reflect this message through my flirty design features. The revealing chest, a cheeky length skirt and a waist cinching band to accentuate curves.”
