“To begin I found inspiration in the feeling I grasp from the colour blue. Resene Key Largo is a striking bright blue that invokes a sense of confidence, profound brightness and desire. Much like a sapphire diamond, this colour brings me fulfilment, a sense of peace and luxury. If I put myself in this colour I feel as though I would help a sense of self-expression, intuition and clarity.

I think back to my childhood, raised by my mother, as ex professional ballerina. Dancing around the kitchen. I watched her hold herself with poise and beauty. I knew I wanted to emulate this as I grew older. I started dance classes when I was just three years old, and for the next 15 years my love of dance cascaded almost every style under the sun. I loved the discipline of ballet, the emotive movement of contemporary and the harshness of hip hop. I was in love and had found my medium. I felt as though anything I couldn’t express through my words I would express through movement. To inspire my silhouette I have drawn inspiration from the at home dancer. Celebrating the girl who dances around the room like no-one is watching. Baggy clothes falling off her shoulders and loose fitting bottoms allowing extension and freedom in her movement.

Dancing invokes visual emotion much like garments do. While you are walking down the street or entering a room, this garment encapsulates that same feeling. Celebrating strength and power, softness and beauty and the fluid movement of dancing through a visual lens. The shape of my garment will trace the lines our body creates as it moves, fabric falling and rolling, hanging and telling a story.”
