“When I first got my colour Resene Rulebreaker, a storm was brewing, and I thought about how much Resene Rulebreaker matched the colour of the huge dark clouds. So, after some research on clouds and their defiant properties, I found the meaning of nimbus cloud is “rainy cloud”. While nimbus clouds come in different shapes such as stratus which means flat, the shape of the storm clouds are cumulus which means puffy. The roundness and weightlessness of the clouds’ puffy shapes, along with the depth and power of the colour made me think how I could include these qualities in my design.
I was also inspired by the beauty of the storm clouds which I found to be feminine yet powerful but mostly unrestricted by any rule, which is exactly what my colour Resene Rulebreaker evokes. Society and fashion often influence how a woman is portrayed. A woman who wants to be seen as powerful might think she must dress in a masculine manner, however like the name ‘rulebreaker’, a woman can still portray herself as powerful and strong while still maintaining her femininity.”
