Colour: Resene Kaitoke Green

"Maya's metamorphosis.

It's a mystery. No one has ever seen it before, nor will. The struggle the caterpillar goes through as she breaks free from her cocoon.

She becomes accustomed to the darkness and the silence. She accepts that everything she is experiencing is part of the sacred act of becoming. As the days and weeks unfold the butterfly is formed. It's time for her to emerge from the cocoon.

From her reflection she finds that she has the magical colour of nature and the gift of healing. She can't wait to get out of her box and meet the world. She hopes she will have beautiful wings like others.

She felt everybody's eyes staring at her wings. She doesn't know how they look. She doesn't realise she can fly.
At the time, the mystical Kaitoke works its magic. She turned her head and looked at her wide opened wings. She is surprised. She sees the beautiful green wings with golden sparkles on her body. They are big and strong. They can take her to heights nobody else can reach.

In my design I wanted to include both elements of constriction and freedom.

In this garment she can feel the enjoyment of her new found freedom. She can't even remember that caterpillar that she once was. She forgets about the darkness in the cocoon. She is ready to discover, share and enjoy who she is now."
