"Arise Today.

May's surroundings were hard, strong elements. Restricted by her predetermined life, the only way Maya could escape was through her dreams.

Weaving through the forest Maya was amazed by the layers of green that were draped around the lush hedges, the deep mountains and the tall trees. When she squinted her eyes because of the warm sun on her face, she was sure she had seen a deep blue through the forest. Maya had embraced the serenity all around her.

The dress had to embrace Maya's journey through the forest. Gathered neck line, the way leaves are formed or even how they drape. The back of the bodice represents her journey through the forest. The skirt dress represents the leaves. The fullness of the skirt is the forest, the lines and detail on a leaf.

Arise Today – I named my garment this because of Maya's awakening to colour and life."
