Colour: Resene Moscato

"I chose Moscato because it immediately caught my eye. I read about May's journey and loved he transition into the forest from a world heavy in architecture. I learnt Moscato was a wine and found I was inspired by the pests which prevent Moscato grapes from being made into wine. I incorporated the structure of the angular moth and the roundness of the grapes into my garment. This reminded me of the hindrances in Maya's world that she overcame to discover the world outside, such as buildings and a feeling of captivity.

The dress consists of a harsh ruffle at the waits, a panelled bodice with architectural structure, three quarter length sleeves with tucks at the top and puff at the bottom for a swoopy, wing like appearance. The above knee length skirt has tucks at the waist from under the ruffle and exaggerated puff at the bottom. The back bodice is dipped in a slight v at the top.
The garment is my interpretation of Maya's discovery of life outside of her tin can, confined world of restrictions. She is exposed to the amazing enchanted forest where she may come across insects and birds which feed on the abundance of grapes and other berries."
