Colour: Resene Resolution Blue

"The story is about a girl named Maya who is born into a future time away from civilisation where people don't need to leave their apartments.

My colour, Resolution Blue, emerges when in her dream she wanders past deep forest pools and happens upon her reflection then finds herself transported to a frozen arctic world on the edge of the earth.

When I read this, I imagined clear blue waterfalls flowing into vibrant blue ponds and snow-capped mountain tops and also how Maya is confined and hidden away from the outside world.

The waterfalls represent the flowy-ness of my garment because I want her to feel unrestricted and be able to move at her own will. I want it to be edgy but at the same time bold and beautiful.

I chose to do the pleats on the back for a bit of structure and shape. The wrap/tie closure isn't as restricted as a zip or buttons… it feels freer to me.

The emotional connection between myself and the garment is being relaxed and open.'

After what Maya had seen in her luxurious dream, she felt calm and peaceful and has a new vision and lease on life. She finally realised what she had been missing and at that moment vowed to be an individual and free spirit… this was her 'New Life Resolution'."
