Colour: Resene Memphis Belle

"The enchanted colours of her dream are now merging vibrant brushstrokes painted across bland city buildings.

This, among others, is the quote from Maya's story that got my inspiration flowing, as well as the keywords freedom, forest, enchanted and dream. These words are reflected in my design and my colour, Memphis Belle.
The panel lines are gentle brushstrokes transforming something bland and structured into something magically enchanting. The soft curves are the trees of the forest merging themselves to Maya – the new revolution.

I loved the feeling that reading Maya's story gave me, it really reminded me of a world outside of reality. My colour, and my sari itself, amplified this feeling.

The authenticity of the silk made me think of the beauty of the culture behind it and I thought in one way or another I'd like to reflect this in my design too. I ended up doing this with my neck pieces, which resemble the traditional way a sari is worn.

These pieces are Maya finding true freedom at last. Here, Maya's strength becomes clear. As the rest of the dress is soft, subtle and elegant, the neck pieces have boning inside to help with shaping and structure around the neck.

The deep v neckline and high slit are the risks Maya is taking by not conforming, as well as the beauty and enchantment she exudes by having such confidence."
