Colour: Resene Fascinator
"My inspiration begins with a number of things. Firstly, Maya. As Maya escapes the black and dark restricted planet Earth she travels deep into the solar system on a flying comet, entering a world of colour! She falls in love with colours and things that behold her which feeds her eyes and creativity – she has never seen a world like this. The colours of nebulae with deep purple and pretty pinks, swirling gold galaxies, shooting stars, exploding comets and the shining glow of infinity. Maya lands on the luminous rings of Saturn; she feels empowered and inspired to feel beautiful and glamorous as she walks the rings of Saturn as her own dream runway.
In conjunction with this inspiration I was inspired by the name of my colour which is Fascinator. I researched what a fascinator is and was inspired by the structure, shapes and textures. The word fascinate means to captivate, mesmerise and engage, which Maya feels as she travels through space.
The swirling galaxies and the rings of Saturn inspired hard and soft contrasting textures and shapes. The bodice is a hard structural design that encases and swirls. The bottom half consists of a panelled mini skirt with long floor length frayed strips of fabric layered to give a softer feel and to give movement. The idea of the fraying is to give texture and also a glow as it catches the light."
